TV & Video Production (CAST) Concentration

  • Visual & Performing Arts Academy Logo In the TV and Video Production concentration, all students will learn through hands-on experience right from the start. Students become a television & filmmaker through immersion in the process and by learning the "why's" that inspire the "how's.". Students are behind the camera throughout their four years in the program and will learn about and explore the numerous visual, dramatic, and technical challenges that face directors. In addition to writing, producing, directing, and editing their own films, students assist other members of their crews in the roles of director of photography, assistant cameraperson, and gaffer/grip, providing everyone with extensive behind-the-camera experience. Ultimately, through intensive hands-on instruction, our goal is to empower students to tell stories artfully, cinematically, and originally.

The combination of non-stop collaborative work, diverse cultures and experiences, and a shared passion for film make our filmmaking workshops and programs an intensely enriching experience. At the end of the student’s sophomore, junior, and senior years, their final films are celebrated in a film festival attended by the school community. Possible careers related to this sequence are Director, Editor, Producer, Camera Person, Sound Engineer, and Production assistant. Students will be placed with a mentor/adviser to monitor and guide their progress through the Visual and Performing Arts Academy.
