Counseling & Student Services Overview

  • The mission of the Clifton High School Counseling Department is to empower our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve academic, personal/social, and career success, and in turn enable them to reach their fullest potential as respectful, responsible citizens.  While our students are the primary focus of the department and its activities, student’s ultimate success is dependent upon a collaborative approach between counselor,  parent,  teacher, and administrators.

    The Counseling Department at CHS consists of the following; Three counselors assigned to each of the four building wings (East, South, Central & North) and two Student Assistance Counselors available to all students in the building.  

    Department Responsibilities

    Testing Coordination/Services- PSAT, AP, ASVAB and College Board/ACT SSD Coordination Services.

    Specialized Student-Based Support Programs- Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBSIS), Stigma Free, Intervention & Referral Services (I&RS), Section 504 Services, Individual Support Services & Targeted Parent/Student Information Sessions.

    College/Career Services-  Naviance, College Fair, Financial Aid Nights, College Information Sessions,  Instant Decision Days, Scholarship Program/Services, Career Day, Boys State, Girls Leadership Institute & RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership). 

    Student Assistance Counselors- School-wide services include: providing counseling services to pupils regarding substance abuse and other behavioral or mental health issues. Development and adherence of policies (and facilitation of in-service trainings) on state-mandated topics (substance abuse, suicide, physical/sexual abuse, and sexual harassment policies).  The SAC is equipped to implement crisis response services appropriate for the student body. The SAC acts as a liaison with community agencies as a regular participant in Municipal Alliance meetings and ongoing communication with local law enforcement officials.
